2010 Davis Cup: Taiwan swept by Australia after doubles loss

Taipei, March 6 (CNA) Taiwan's Yang Tsung-hua and Yi Chu-huan lost to Australians Carsten Ball and Paul Henley 7-6 (7-4) , 7-6 (7-2) , 6-2 Saturday as Australia swept Taiwan in the first three matches and won the best-of-five 2010 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group tie.

Taiwan will now enter a relegation draw composed of losers in this weekend's four Asia/Oceania Group 1 matches, after its loss to Australia.

On Friday, Taiwan lost both opening singles matches, with 18-year-old Yang being thumped by Australia's budding star Bernard Tomic 6-2, 6-1. 6-1 and Yi putting up some resistance before falling to Peter Luczak 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.

Two reverse singles matches will be played Sunday in Melbourne, Australia to conclude the series.

The eventual loser of the relegation competition will be sent down to Asia/Oceania Group 2.
