2012 ELECTIONS: The TSU again accuses Ma of committing treason

By Chris Wang  /  Staff Reporter

The Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) yesterday accused President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) of committing treason by creating the so-called “1992 consensus.”

The “1992 consensus” never existed, but Ma has conspired with China to create the consensus, betraying Taiwanese and the Republic of China (ROC), TSU Chairman Huang Kun-huei (黃昆輝) said at the book-launch ceremony for Truth Behind Ma Ying-jeou’s Treason published by the TSU.

The “1992 consensus,” a term which former Mainland Affairs Council chairman Su Chi (蘇起) has admitted making up in 2000, refers to a tacit understanding between the Chinese -Nationalist Party (KMT) and the Chinese government that both sides of the Strait acknowledge there is “one China,” with each side having its own interpretation of what “China” means.

Huang described Ma’s creation of the consensus as “the biggest lie in the history of the ROC and the most serious act of high treason.”

Huang, who filed a lawsuit against Ma and Su for alleged treason, forgery and defamation on Oct. 27, also accused the judicial system of neglecting the case.

It took a great deal of effort to file the lawsuit against the president, Huang said.

Ma has deceived himself as well as others with the creation of the “1992 consensus” and his kowtowing to Beijing, political analyst Yang Hsien-hung (楊憲宏) said, likening it to an instance of Stockholm syndrome, in which a hostage expresses empathy for, defends and even helps his captors.

China has long been known for distorting history and using its distortions to manipulate current political issues, former Academia Historica director Chang Yen-hsien (張炎憲) said.

With his creation of the fictional consensus, Ma has failed to protect Taiwan’s sovereignty and interests, Chang said.
