A senior Chinese official in charge of Taiwan affairs should be deported for practices inconsistent with his travel purposes and his pro-unification comments, the Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) said yesterday.
Sun Yafu (孫亞夫), deputy director of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO), visited Taiwan to attend a forum on cross-strait issues held on Monday and Tuesday last week, but has been allowed to stay until Tuesday next week, TSU caucus whip Huang Wen-ling (黃文玲) told a press conference.
“Sun is not your ordinary Chinese tourist. He has repeatedly promoted the ‘one China’ ideology and made comments that impinged on Taiwan’s sovereignty,” Huang said.
Since the forum, Sun has been visiting various locations around the nation, she said.
On three occasions, the TSU demanded the National Immigration Agency provide Sun’s itinerary, but the agency refused.
The agency said that Sun was invited by private organizations and his itinerary is unavailable.
The comments and activities of Chinese officials should be monitored even if they invited by private organizations, Huang said, adding that her party urged people to report Sun’s whereabouts.
The objective of Sun’s visit was to do more than attend the forum, which was organized by the pro-unification Chinese Integration Association, otherwise he would not have applied for a two-week stay TSU Legislator Lin Shih-chia (林世嘉) said.
Sun met Hualien County Commissioner Fu Kun-chi (傅崑萁) on Friday to discuss direct flights between China and Hualien, which is not related to cultural exchanges, the stated purpose of Sun’s visit, Lin said.
