DPP to unveil first national defense blue paper today

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is to release its first blue paper on national defense today, party think tank the New Frontier Foundation announced yesterday.

A press conference hosted by think tank executive director Lin Wan-i (林萬億) has been scheduled this afternoon for the announcement of the blue paper on national defense policy, titled “The DPP’s National Defense Agenda,” which consists of four parts.

The first part sets out the DPP’s overall national defense policy, with DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌), who also serves as the think tank’s president, to present an overview.

DPP caucus convener Ker Chien-ming (柯建銘) is to present the second part which deals with the transformation of the quasi-governmental Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology, and strengthening the nation’s military-industrial and research capabilities.

Former National Security Council (NSC) consultant York Chen (陳文政) is to lead the discussion of the third part, which deals with the establishment of a responsible NSC.

Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), executive director of the DPP’s Policy Research Committee, is to conclude the presentation by outlining the party’s plans to strengthen military cooperation between Taiwan and the US.
