The Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) yesterday said it would again file a complaint against President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) for treason, for creating the so-called “1992 consensus,” and launch another petition drive to recall Ma.
TSU Chairman Huang Kun-huei (黃昆輝) at a press conference denounced the Taiwan High Prosecutors’ Office’s decision to dismiss his previous lawsuit against Ma, filed in October 2011, and said he would provide new evidence in the pursuit of another legal action.
While Ma’s fabrication of the consensus is obvious, the prosecutors’ office dismissed the case without questioning Ma or conducting an investigation, saying that the case “was not a crime and there is no need for further investigation,” Huang said.
Almost every politician involved with the 1992 negotiations between Taiwan and China, including Ma himself, had said at the time that no consensus whatsoever was reached, Huang said.
However, he added, Ma said in his reply to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s (習近平) congratulatory message after his re-election as Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) chairman this year that “both sides of the Taiwan Strait reached a consensus in 1992 to express each other’s insistence on the ‘one China’ principle.”
Former vice president Vincent Siew (蕭萬長), who represented Ma at this year’s APEC summit in Bali, Indonesia, did not refute Xi’s “one China principle” comment.
These examples are new evidence of Ma’s collusion with a foreign country to undermine the Republic of China’s status, because only “one China” was kept in the KMT’s interpretation of the consensus — one China with different interpretations — while there were no “different interpretations” anymore, Huang said.
The TSU would launch another nationwide petition drive to recall Ma on the basis of more than 800,000 signatures collected in the previous round, Huang said.
Meanwhile, Huang said the TSU would not support the Democratic Progressive Party’s proposed motion of no confidence against the Cabinet because “the focus should be on Ma, not [Premier] Jiang Yi-huah (江宜樺).”
