Taipei, Nov. 6 (CNA) At least one Taiwanese player will get her hands on the winners' trophy at the 2010 OEC Taipei Ladies Open tennis doubles competition, as Chang Kai-chen/Chuang Chia-jung and Hsieh Su-wei/Sania Mirza (India) both came from behind for victories Saturday.
Chang/Chuang beat Chinese pair Peng Shuai/Yan Zi 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 in their semifinal before Hsieh/Mirza won 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 against Jarmila Groth (Australia)/Tamarine Tanasugarn (Thailand).
Chuang will be eyeing her third straight doubles title in the tournament after teaming up with Hsieh in 2008 and Chan Yung-jan in 2009 for back-to-back wins.
Japan's 20-year-old Ayumi Morita will be making her second straight final appearance with an upset semifinal win over top-seeded Groth 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. She lost to Taiwan's Chan Yung-jan in the 2009 final.
Chan, Taiwan's highest-ranked player at No. 81, withdrew from the tournament due to pneumonia.
In the title match Sunday, Morita, currently ranked world No. 112, will meet China's Peng, who posted a tough straight sets 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-4) win over Tanasugarn.
The total purse for the International Tennis Federation (ITF) event is US$100,000, according to the Chinese Taipei Tennis Association, which is organizing the tournament.
ITF tournaments are a tier below WTA events, which have minimum purses of US$220,000 and attract higher ranked players. (By Chris Wang) enditem/MH
