Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) yesterday launched a redesigned presidential campaign Web site and an Android-based application for mobile phones.
Tsai described the Web site as her “air force,” which has the massive power of virtual mobilization, as compared with her “army” — the hundreds of “Friends of Tsai Ing-wen” organizations across the country.
“All the effort we have spent on our Web site and mobile phone application aims to allow voters to understand the policies, thoughts and feelings of the DPP presidential candidate,” Tsai told a press conference held to announce the launch.
Tsai’s campaign now integrates all information, including text and multimedia material, on the Web site, www.iing.tw, and takes advantage of the communication capabilities of social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Plurk.
Real-time communication and transparency are highlights of the Web site as users will be able to watch live streaming of Tsai’s press conferences and be able to stay up to date with Tsai’s schedule by subscribing to her Google Calendar.
The newly launched Android application also allows mobile phone users to make online donations to Tsai’s presidential campaign.
According to campaign spokesperson Hsu Chia-ching (徐佳青), Tsai was personally involved with the design process and came up with the innovative idea of online auctions because raising funds has been one of the most important, but under-publicized, issues of her campaign.
Tsai offered to provide personal belongings for online auction as part of the campaign fundraising plan in a brainstorming meeting, Hsu said.
An application for iPhone users is expected to be available within a week as it is still being reviewed by Apple, she added.
Meanwhile, former president Lee Teng-hui (李登輝) denied yesterday that he had been asked by Tsai to persuade central bank Governor Perng Fai-nan (彭淮南) to accept an offer to be Tsai’s running mate in a private meeting on Aug. 19.
Lee said that he had invited Perng to the meeting in order to exchange their views on the global financial situation and domestic economic issues, including monetary policy, housing prices and the liquidity of foreign investment.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Perng reiterated that his current job will be his last one as a public servant.
