The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will announce Chairperson Su Tseng-chang’s (蘇貞昌) appointments for several key positions today, with a source saying that Lin Hsi-yao (林錫耀), a longtime Su confidant, was likely to be named secretary-general.
Su could also nominate three deputy secretaries-general, the directors of the party’s Policy Research Committee and Finance Committee and a pair of spokespersons, said the source, who wished to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to speak on the matter.
Lin served as the deputy commissioner for five years when Su was the commissioner of Taipei County, which is now known as New Taipei City (新北市), between 1997 and 2004, and was the county’s acting commissioner between 2004 and 2005.
Lin also worked as a senior aide in charge of campaign strategy for former DPP chairperson Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) -presidential campaign.
The likely choices for the three deputy -secretaries-general were former Pingtung County legislator Lin Yu-shen (林育生), who is close to Su; former Tainan county lawmaker Lee Chun-yi (李俊毅) and former DPP spokesperson Lin Yu-chang (林右昌), the source said.
The nominations of Lee and Lin would likely reflect Su’s “power-sharing” effort with the other major party factions because Lee is close to former premier Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) and Lin was an apprentice under former premier Yu Shyi-kun (游錫?).
Su has consulted all major party factions on possible nominations since he assumed party helm on May 27, the source said.
DPP Legislator Ker Chien-ming (柯建銘) is expected to be retained as the director of the Finance Committee, the source said.
Party spokesperson Lin Chun-hsien (林俊憲) would also be retained and Wang Ming-shen (王閔生), who currently serves as the spokesperson of Su’s office, would fill in as the other spokesperson, the source said.
