MLB's Wang to return for off-season stay

Taipei, Nov. 10 (CNA) Washington Nationals' pitcher Chien-ming Wang, who spent the entire 2010 Major League Baseball (MLB) season rehabilitating a shoulder injury, will return to Taiwan for his off-season stay Friday, Nike Taiwan announced Wednesday.

The 30-year-old right-hander is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on Friday morning and will immediately hold a press conference, the sports company said in a press release.

Wang, who has completed his one-year, US$2 million contract with the Nationals, is expected to stay in Taiwan for about two months before returning to the U.S. for spring training for the 2011 season.

The former New York Yankee, now a free agent, did not appear in the regular season but pitched two games in the instructional league in October. The Nationals' management has said the team was pleased with Wang's performance and planned to negotiate a new contract with Wang's agent.

The Taiwan native made his MLB debut in 2005 with the Yankees, registered consecutive 19-win seasons from 2005-2006, and was released by the team in 2009.

He has a career record of 55 wins, 26 losses with a 4.16 ERA (earned runs average). (By Lee Yu-cheng and Chris Wang) enditem/MH
